The God of War series just received a major casting shake-up.
Dave Bautista is in talks to take over the role of Kratos in Amazon’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the PlayStation video game franchise, replacing Ryan Hurst, who was previously announced to play the legendary Spartan warrior.
The change comes as the highly anticipated Prime Video series moves forward with production in Vancouver. Amazon has already ordered two seasons, but a premiere date has not been announced.
For fans who have been waiting to see Kratos brought to life in live action, Bautista’s potential casting could make this one of Amazon’s biggest fantasy bets yet.

The creative team also includes people connected to the original games. Cory Barlog, the creative director of the 2018 God of War, is among the executive producers.

The announced cast also includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, along with actors playing Baldur, Heimdall and Sif.
The casting suggests Amazon is building the series around the Norse mythology introduced in the 2018 game rather than adapting the original Greek-era adventures of Kratos.
